Australian dirt shirts are 100% cotton T-shirts, dyed in South Australia with 100% Australian Dirt and Australian rain water.
The need for product like this came to me after I drove 5100kms through the heart of Australia. I stopped in at all the small towns and pubs along my path. I would often want a souvenir to remember and support these great and diverse rural areas. Unfortunately the souvenirs invariably consisted of a drab bumper sticker and generic clothing items made in China. I felt these souvenirs were missing the soul of Australia.
About half way through my trip I visited an ancient Aboriginal Ochre pit. Ochre is a natural earth pigment containing iron oxide that ranges in colour from yellow to orange and deep brown. Australian Aborigines have used Ochre for trade, paint and decoration for millennia. I believe that there is something special here, something that has been forgotten and lost.
While I do not have access to an Ochre pit I do have access to plenty of South Australian dirt that is high in Iron oxide giving it the iconic Australian sunburnt red colour. After several months of prototyping I finally worked out a reliable way to infuse that iconic colour of Australia into a Shirt.
